CULT Fashion: THOM KROM
Berlin, Berlin, crazy, sexy and cool, and no, we are not just talking about the nightlife, this fascinating city is also home to some of the brightest stars in contemporary, avant garde fashion. Chasseur, ever at the forefront, regularly has a man on the ground in Berlin, and most recently catching our eye is designer Thom Krom. Thom Krom who set up his own label in 2009, designs everyday menswear and womenswear staples with a minimalist avant garde bent, and also focuses on taking an eco-fashion approach in manufacturing terms. The concept is utilitarian minimalism, clothes that borrow from the work wardrobe and are given a signature post modern twist through details such as outside seams and asymmetrical designs….

When in doubt.. do what always worked best! Absolutely LOVE Versace’s continued Nineties throwback wandering and this latest campaign harkening back to the heady Versace/Avedon era. Gianni would be very pleased!

My 1991: Ian Michael Luke Turner, Fashion Editor of Chausseur Magazine @IanisNYLO

‘The 90’s for me was all about MTV, the music, the videos and the fashion. Just about to hit my teens in 1991 it’s fair to say I was at the impressionable age and I was drawn to the aspirational lifestyles portrayed, I dreamed and I dreamed BIG. Think the big slick music videos by producers such as Hype Williams, money and bling was king, then of course later we had Britney, Backstreet, Mariah was on fire, Missy and Puffy, Eurodance and Britpop. The 90’s was ALL about the music and of course the fashions came with it.

Mocked and loved in both equal measure, the decade was some of the best and worst of both and currently riding a nostalgia wave, the fashion and music which so define my generation, mean that the Nineties will remain one of the most influential decades of them all.’

CULT Fashion: Lee Roach SS14 LCM

In a crowd of peacocks, Lee Roach is that rarest of breeds, a minimalist. Lee Roach takes an austere, almost monastic approach to menswear design and his clothing harkens back to early Helmut Lang, clean minimalism, with linear lines and intelligent design details, Roach does luxury sportswear better than anyone else on the London circuit.

An anti-dandy in a different sense to many LCM designers who are all about flash eccentricism, Roach pursues his own aesthetic severity in a relentlessly dedicated manner, he is an artist who has found his style, tweaking subtly as time dictates. A British approach to the art of tailoring is apparent in Roach’s stark designs which change subtly with each season. For SS14, the designer proffers a continuation of his lean chic for the conservatively fashion forward dresser. A loose silhouette with a sense of utopian utilitarianism, the tabards were a stand out as was the leather bomber style jacket and Roach’s interesting use of strap belts to cinch jackets and tops at the waist. This season Roach introduces to his neutral colour aesthetic a desert camo print with peppered with black rain splotch like spots; camo’s been done, but Roach found a new way to do it.
Lee Roach is not a name on everybody’s lips, but that is just a matter of time. Already a firm favourite with many fashion insiders, his collection shows once more that this young designer is a rising force to be reckoned.
